Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs received letter from the President of the United States addressed to the President of Cuba

HAVANA, July 1st, 2015.- Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelino Medina Rodriguez, received during today's  morning, at the venue of the Chancery, the chief of the United States Interests Section in Havana, Mr. Jeffrey DeLaurentis, who conveyed a letter from president Barack Obama addressed to Army General Raul Castro Ruz, president of the Councils of State and Ministers, confirming the decision to re-establish the diplomatic relations between the two countries and to open permanent diplomatic missions in the respective capitals, beginning July 20th, 2015.  (Cubaminrex)

Havana, July 1st, 2015 

Mr. President: 

Consistent with the announcements made on December 17, 2014, and the high level discussions between our two governments, I am pleased to address this letter to you in order to confirm that the Republic of Cuba has agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations with the United States of America and open permanent diplomatic missions in our respective countries on July 20, 2015. 

In making this decision, Cuba is encouraged by the reciprocal intention to develop respectful and cooperative relations between our two peoples and governments.
