Opening of Havana Film Festival New York

NEW YORK, 4 April 2017.  The 18th edition of Havana Film Festival New York – HFFNY started off in this city with the premiere of the Cuban drama Esteban, directed by Jonal Cosculluela, with original soundtrack by the legendary Chucho Valdés.

The event will continue until 7 April and will exhibit in halls and theaters in Manhattan, Queens and The Bronx more than 35 film materials, most of them from Latin America. This time the traditional celebration of the seventh art will pay homage to Juan Padrón, one of the leading figures of the Cuban animation movie industry and to the recently deceased argentine film-director Eliseo Subiela.

The Festival will also cover other activities like discussion panels on contemporary Cuban cinema and on Cuba’s International Film and Television School.

During the opening, additionally to the very positive reception of the film “Esteban”, participants listened to the welcoming address by Mrs. Carol Rosemberg, Director and main promoter of the Festival, as well as the presentations of the young film-director and of master Chucho Valdés on the filmmaking process, selection of the cast of actors and its excellent soundtrack.
After the successful inauguration, guests and participants joined the warm welcoming reception hosted at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters. (Cubaminrex-Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations)
